Company Profile Optimo IoT
We collect field data and put it to work to improve your plant.
Vision and goals
Optimo IoT was founded in 2019 with one clear goal: to collect field data and put it to work, giving customers a deeper understanding of their plant so they can improve its efficiency and monitor its performance, cutting costs and consumption.
Our aim is to give customers a tool that shows them the consumption and operating parameters of their plant, so they understand how the process actually behaves and can find and carry out improvements they would never otherwise have thought of.
To do that we chose to build our monitoring and remote management system on Internet of Things technology. Compared with traditional approaches, IoT lets us collect field data faster and scale it further, partly because the system can be configured and commissioned remotely, which means we can work anywhere in the world without going on site.
With the same goal of making that first data collection step as efficient as possible, we chose to build the entire IoT ecosystem we use in our applications ourselves. That gives us full technical control of the system and lets us bring our engineering expertise in plant design and safety to bear, supporting the customer end to end, from the first quotation through to commissioning.
Not least, the Optimo IoT system was designed to be open and simple, so that customers can genuinely use it on their own to build their own applications, without needing us.
“Our skills let us develop industrial IoT systems end to end, from the field through to the user interface, taking in data analysis and process optimisation along the way: we are ready to build, with you, the system that best fits your needs.”
The IIoT ecosystem: an integrated solution
The Optimo IoT system is built around the AL300 IoT gateway which is installed on site and collects plant data by talking to the equipment already there over open industrial protocols such as Modbus RS485 or TCP/IP, OPC UA, BACnet, AI/AO and DI/DO. The AL300 can also read data wirelessly from battery-powered sensors using the LoRaWAN protocol. It is therefore the only physical device installed on the plant: all the data converges there and is then sent to the Optimo IoT monitoring cloud platform over the encrypted MQTT protocol, using the internet as the communication infrastructure.
The Optimo IoT cloud platform is where the user meets the system, monitoring and managing the plant remotely through cloud dashboards that are fully configurable and editable. The main features are:
- monitor and manage plants remotely
- build multi-site monitoring dashboards (several sites from one interface) and multi-user ones (access for outside consultants, maintenance providers and so on)
- keep a digital logbook of work carried out and store plant documentation with our AIMS system
- send SMS and email alerts when thresholds or other user-defined conditions are crossed
- create PDF reports sent automatically to chosen email addresses (for example an automatic report to your energy consultant)
- run local automation logic using the gateway’s onboard I/O or expansion modules
- forward energy and plant data to other platforms (a CMMS or MES, for instance) through an API
Where company policy rules out cloud tools, the Optimo IoT system can also be used offline through the AL300’s web server.
Hardware: AssetLinker 300 Gateway (AL300)
The AssetLinker 300 gateway is the heart of the system, a central node for collecting and processing data.
- Universal connectivity: WiFi, LAN or 4G LTE. Native support for Modbus, OPC UA, S7 (Siemens), BACnet, M-Bus and LoRaWAN.
- Edge computing: Local web server for offline use and secure management over VPN. Local automation logic can be run with Node-RED
- Reliability: Built-in supercapacitor UPS to guarantee safe shutdowns.
Cloud platform & AI assistant
- Custom dashboards: Build web interfaces and animated mimic diagrams without writing code.
- AI widget assistant: LLM models built in, so you can create charts and analyses with plain-language commands.
- Advanced analysis: Automatic calculation of KPIs and statistics (mean, standard deviation), with automatic periodic reports by email.

AIMS: Asset Integrity Management System
The AIMS module takes the system towards a complete Digital Twin of the Optimo IoT system. Alongside the monitoring of physical parameters it adds the documentation and record-keeping side, including the operating notes entered by the people on the ground.
- Digital logbook & CMMS: A shared logbook of work carried out, tracking the life of the asset (maintenance, faults, claims).
- Document management: Central storage of manuals, certificates (such as the Italian Di.Co. declaration of conformity) and technical drawings, reachable by QR code or on the web.
- Reliability index: A real-time score (0-100%) that combines IoT data (physical anomalies), whether the required documentation is in place, and the status of scheduled maintenance.

Engineering support
Optimo IoT’s engineering service is the all-round operational support that makes sure our IoT systems are implemented properly at the customer’s site, at every stage:
1
Technical analysis to define the architecture of the monitoring system and the sensors needed to meet the customer’s requirements.
2
Specialist support, on site and remote, for integrating the AL300 with existing equipment, testing and commissioning.
3
Analysis of the collected data to find inefficiencies, verify energy savings and spot new opportunities.
Vertical solutions and application kits
The Optimo IoT system is general purpose by design, and is tailored to each customer’s specific monitoring and management needs.
Some typical applications are:
- Energy Monitoring Kit: Monitoring of electrical loads with MID meters or power analysers. Power Quality analysis and energy flows (Sankey diagrams).
- Compressed Air Kit: Compressed air network monitoring. Tracking of the compressor room’s electricity consumption and of compressed air flow rates.
- Photovoltaic & BESS Kit: Integration of photovoltaic inverters and batteries over SunSpec. Load management and string voltage monitoring.
- PV Monitoring & CCI Kit: A CCI system able to carry out PF2 modulation functions, using the AL300 as the communication link with the photovoltaic inverters.
- Building & HVAC Kit: Coordinated monitoring and control of HVAC systems, heat pumps and heat metering, tuning operation to renewable generation.
- LoRaWAN Monitoring Kit: Long-range wireless networks for battery-powered sensors (temperature, pulses, currents), including in ATEX environments.
